WBBJ team says farewell to reporter/anchor Emily Goodwin

The WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News team is saying farewell to reporter/anchor Emily Goodwin.

Whether at the news desk or out on the field, Emily has helped bring some of the biggest stories in West Tennessee to your screens for the past two years.

As she prepared to sign off of WBBJ-TV for the last time, we had a few questions about her time reporting in our community.

What have you enjoyed most about reporting in West Tennessee?

Reporting in West Tennessee has taught me so much. It has allowed me to connect with some of the most inspiring individuals. Each day and every story I covered, I learned something new. This is why I love this job so much. You never know what the day will bring and it teaches you to be on your toes, flexible, motivated and determined.

What are some of the most memorable stories that you’ve helped tell?

I loved covering Grandparents Day at the local schools. I was a 10-year 4-H member, so I enjoyed covering the nearby fairs. I met some of the friendliest people at Christmas parades and festivals, and I cannot leave out – when I discovered the craft of BBQ-ing at Scott’s BBQ in Lexington, and of course when I reported that they were named one of the Top 15 Roadside Restaurants in the South.

What advice do you have for future reporters preparing for their first job?

Don’t give up on your dreams. Don’t take things personal. Learn from your mistakes. Always keep an extra set of clothes and shoes, and for young reporters, acquire the taste of coffee.

What would you say to the viewers who have supported you?

Thank you to our viewers for being so supportive over the past two years. I hope you enjoyed waking up with Ryan Hodges and I on weekdays, and Brian Davis and I on Saturday mornings. West Tennessee will forever have special place in my heart.

Emily will be missed dearly around our newsroom, and please join us in wishing her the best of luck on her next steps!
