‘Global Missions Experience’ to bring students across the region to Henderson

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Freed-Hardeman University‘s Mid-South Youth Camp is quiet right now. However, many college students will be there for the next few days for the Global Missions Experience.

“So this is just a big weekend where we’ll have students, obviously from Freed-Hardeman, we have 60 or 70 students from Hardin University over in Searcy, we have students from Crowley’s Ridge College, students from Faulkner University, we have students from University of Alabama, and UNA. I don’t even know how they found out about it, but they’re going to be here,” said Dr. Matt Cook, FHU Professor of Missions and Bible.

This is the first time FHU has hosted it there in about 16 years. The goal is to try and prepare students for what they might be interested in after college.

“We hope that it prepares them,” said Dr. Cook. “We give them some resources to learn about how to do this and then experience some things about what it would be like to live in a place that is a little different than here. But we also hope that some of the students who come and maybe do not have they’re mind made up, we can inspire them to make a commitment.”

It is unique to have students from so many different colleges and universities all in the same place. It definitely brings some benefits.

Global Missions Experience

“I think it will inspire the students to see wow we’re not alone in this passion for global missions,” Dr. Cook said. “There are people from other places that care about this as much as we do.”

There are about 30 or 40 current and former missionaries, and professors coming in to work with the students.
