Isolated Storms This Weekend, Cooler Weather For As We Approach The First Day of Fall!
Friday AM Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
It has been another hot day for our Thursday, making for 8 straight days with highs 8° or more above average. We will still reach the 90s again on Friday and likely both days for the upcoming weekend, but some upper 80s will return as we kick off fall on Monday. Some even better news about the start of fall is some of the long term forecast models are showing a stalled out system bringing several rounds of rain showers to West Tennessee early next week. Now it is too early to celebrate as the forecast could change by the time that system gets here…. but as of now, things are looking pretty good. We will have the latest on timing of the possible pop ups on Friday, your complete weekend forecast and the latest on the rain showers next week right here.
LATE WEEK:
Thursday was very similar to Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 90s and mostly sunny skies. There could be a few more clouds late Thursday night depending on the timing of the next system but we are expecting the dry weather to linger until at least Friday afternoon. The winds varied in direction but primarily come out of the south on Thursday. Thursday night lows will stay in the mid 60s. It was hot all day but the humidity at least didn’t play much of a factor. The latest drought monitor has come out and areas northwest of Madison county have been put under an extreme drought. We really need the rain and chances will start on Friday!
The next chance for rain for most of us is coming Today and the next system will begin to move through the region. Some of the football Friday night could be impacted so you will need to monitor the forecast as the week goes on so you have the appropriate gear before you head out. It is not a lot we are going to see much as of now, chances for rain are at 20 on Friday.
Expect that number to go up a bit this weekend when we get more confidence in the forecast. Highs on Friday will reach the low 90s and the skies will be partly cloudy. The winds will come out of the southwest and Friday night lows will also drop into the mid 60s to kick off the weekend.
THE WEEKEND:
As of now the weekend is looking quite promising for rain chances across the Mid South including all of West Tennessee. Chances for rain are around 30-40% each day so far this weekend. There is a lot in the forecast yet to be determined about which day and who is the most likely to pick up some beneficial rain showers from the next system. The system is going to move through though and cool things down some into next week.
Highs this weekend will be around 90° and expect a mix of sun and clouds. If it does rain, it will not be steady and ruin outdoor plans; as of now, the showers look quite spotty. Overnight lows will stay in the mid 60s and it will be a bit more humid this weekend than earlier in the week. Cooler weather looks to be coming next week but we will stay above average through the weekend.
NEXT WEEK:
Fall officially kicks off on Monday and although it will be cooler than the previous few days, highs will still reach the upper 80s and be above the normal high in the mid 80s. There appears to be a decent shot for showers and storms on Monday and some may linger into the day on Tuesday next week. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy on Monday and the clouds will have less coverage on Tuesday. Highs will stay above 85° through the middle of next week. Morning lows will stay in the mid to upper 60s due to a light breeze out of the south cutting off the cooler and super dry air and keeping it just to the north of us.
