BBB warns of Mega Millions representative impersonator in West Tennessee
JACKSON, Tenn. — A Madison County woman was recently contacted by a man impersonating a Mega Millions lottery representative.
The scammer attempted to lure the victim to a local bank in Hendersonville, Tennessee with a promise of $2.8 million and a 2020 Mercedes Benz.
The victim, fortunately, knew something wasn’t right and immediately told him she was not going to meet him for her “winnings.”
The BBB of the Mid-South wants to alert the community about this scam and share tips on how to protect themselves.
“She knew something didn’t sound right. She knew she never did anything as far as buying a ticket for Mega Millions. She didn’t provide any information in regards to her actually trying to win the lottery, so she knew it was a scam, and then of course, she knew it was a telltale sign when they were offering a 2020 Mercedes-Benz. She was like, ‘Listen, we’re about to be in 2026. If they’ve got some money for me and a brand new vehicle for me, it’s not going to be a 2020,” said Toddnetta Trice, communications specialist with the Better Business Bureau.
