PRESS RELEASE FROM SHILOH NATIONAL MILITARY PARK:
National Park Service Commemorates the 163rd Anniversary of the Battle of Corinth with Ranger-Led Walks, Talks, Car Caravan Tours, and Book Signing
Corinth, MS – Shiloh National Military Park will commemorate the 163rd anniversary of the Battle of Corinth on Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, with special ranger-led historical programs exploring key actions of the battle. Visitors are invited to walk the historic grounds and learn about the people, places, weapons, and decisions that shaped the outcome of this pivotal Civil War engagement.

The walks, talks, car caravan tours will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the events of October 1862, when Union and Confederate forces clashed in the vital railroad town of Corinth, Mississippi. Rangers will lead participants across significant portions of the battlefield, offering insights into the strategies, sacrifices, and stories that continue to resonate more than a century and a half later.

“These hikes allow visitors to step back in time and experience the battlefield in a way that reading a book simply can’t provide,” said Acting Park Superintendent Randy Martin.” By walking in the footsteps of soldiers, we gain a greater appreciation for the decisions and experiences that shaped history.”
Corinth Civil War Center will also be hosting a book signing on Saturday, October 4. Author John E. Talbott will be signing his release, the Recollections of Thomas D. Duncan. He also wrote the book Shadow of the Devil about Fielding Hurst. The signing will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday only.
