Union City Elementary deemed clear after brief lockdown
INFORMATION FROM UNION CITY SCHOOLS:
Union City Elementary School was briefly put on lockdown this afternoon after UC Police said a man with a knife at a nearby housing complex left that area with a knife and reportedly was headed in the direction of the school.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy said the move was strictly precautionary and there was no imminent threat or danger to students or teachers who were confined to the building for a short period before the suspect was captured.
Kennedy, School Resource Officer Stefanie Logan, Principal Allison Palmer, Vice Principals Bill Kail and Maggie Miller, and Director of Teachers and Learning Lance Morgan conducted an extensive search around the building perimeter to ensure safety.
An “all-call” from the central office was sent to assure parents that the issue had been resolved.
UCES will remain on soft lockdown – per usual – the remainder of the day.
