Walk raises money in the fight against Alzheimer’s

JACKSON, Tenn.—Community members rallied together to support those battling Alzheimer’s.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s took place Saturday morning at Rockabilly Stadium in Jackson.

Participants laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement beginning at 9 a.m.

The walk remains the premiere fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. The organization’s efforts fight against all types of dementia and memory related disorders including Alzheimer’s.

Walks are held annually in more than 600 communities across the nation.

Each year residents from all across West TN come together to take part in the local event remembering and supporting their loved ones.

“Everybody here has usually been touched by Alzheimer’s or dementia, they’re caring for somebody with Alzheimer’s or dementia, or like myself where I’ve lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s or dementia. And so, it’s just a great way to bring the Jackson and the West Tennessee community in general together to let people know that you’re not alone. There’s a community out there and certainly a lot of support as well,” said Don Schwartz, Development Manager with the Alzheimer’s Association.

This year’s walk had a great turn out and the event was even emceed by WBBJ’s own anchor, Brad Douglass.
