JMCSS launching new initiative rewarding high, improved ACT scores

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School System is launching a new initiative. Here’s what we know.

The ACT “I Rise” and “I Achieve” incentives have been added to schools across the county.

Students can be rewarded with prizes for improving their a-c-t scores by at least four points for a financial prize.

For example, if a student scores a 15 on their first ACT and a 20 on a retake, the student will be eligible to receive a prize of $150.

The ‘I Achieve’ club will be for scores 30 and above.

Those that meet that requirement will receive new Apple gear for every point above 30, and for those that score a perfect 36, a scholarship of $1,500.

“I think it’s fantastic that we provide incentives for students to achieve higher and higher results on a test that’s become very, very important,” said Chris Clark, teacher at Madison Academic.

“It motivated me because when I heard the good news about it and money was involved, I was like ‘Yeah, I think I’m going to do better on the ACT,” said Makayla Bryson, student at Madison Academic.

This new incentive will not only reward improvement, it will also reward those with a high score already.
