James Gwyen Reece
James Gwyen Reece, age 74, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2025, at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1951, in Maury City, Tennessee, and spent his life as a passionate concrete finisher, known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his work. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Shey Lovelace, with burial to follow at the Providence Cemetery in Jackson, TN.
James will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the love and devotion he had for his family. He cherished the time spent with his sons: Andy Reece of Providence, TN; Charles Reece (Kristina) of Auburndale, FL; and Jared Golden of Cherokee, AL. His daughters, Layla Estrada (Gilberto) of Bells, TN, and Jessica Golden Thorn (Timmy) of Cherokee, AL, held a special place in his heart. James took immense pride in being a father and was a guiding light for his children, instilling values of hard work and caring for others. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Reece (Edith) of Dixon, IL, along with 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss his warmth and wisdom. James had a close bond with his friends, especially Johnny Hendrix, and he valued the connection he had with his nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Reece; parents, Jack & Edna Burns Reece; son, Jesse Golden; brothers, Billy Joe Reece, Bobby Jack Reece, and James Wymon Reece; as well as his sisters Eula Mae Lewis, Olene White, Virginia Smith and Louise Matthis.
In addition to his dedication to family, James found joy in hobbies such as riding motorcycles and embracing life to its fullest.
Pallbearers for the service are Roberto Rivera, Hunter Estrada, Charles Reece, Jr., Jeremy Drew Reece, Dakota Thorn, Aydan Castro, Nickolas Reece and Isaac Castro.
James Gwyen Reece’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and loved him. His legacy of family devotion and friendship will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
