Misleading prices subject of new FTC rule now in effect
JACKSON, Tenn. — A new FTC rule that took effect this summer aims to protect consumers from hidden or misleading fees.
This is trying to bring more transparency to how prices are advertised.
It prohibits bait-and-switch pricing tactics that hide the total price until the very end.
Consumers should no longer be surprised by “resort,” “convenience,” or “service” fees that are added after the fact.
Toddnetta Trice, with the Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South, tells us more.
“So instead of you going and spending so much time comparing other websites or other offerings, you will know right up front,” Trice said. “No more wasted time clicking or going to other screens just so you can see the full price.”
If you still find some of these fees, you can report them to the BBB for them to investigate.
