Jackson police welcome community members to National Night Out event

JACKSON, Tenn. — Hub City residents gathered in downtown Jackson Tuesday for the Jackson Police Department’s National Night Out.

The event took place in several different locations around Jackson. Attendees could enjoy great food grilled by local law enforcement.

They also had games such as checkers and corn hole.

“It’s not only good for the community to come out, but good for law enforcement to come through. A lot of times they will pass by, I wouldn’t be upset if they stopped by to check on us and say hey, how you doin, just want to make sure everything’s good. It’s very important to get with your law enforcement,” said Marcus Perkins, pastor at Agape Christian Fellowship Church.

“We do understand there’s a lot of negativity going on around us–in Memphis and other local areas–but what we’re trying to do is bring a more positive light to not only the community, but police department as well,” said Sgt. Curtis Cozart with JPD.

National Night Out is hosted every year to help communities get to know their local first responders.
