Digital education grant awarded to YMCA clubs in Milan, Trenton

MILAN, Tenn. — Spectrum is partnering with on nonprofit to improve communities and impact lives.

Wednesday at the Milan Family YMCA, Spectrum awarded a $14,000 digital education grant to the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South.

This will impact clubs in Milan and Trenton.

They will use the funds for their senior digital literacy programs.

Attendees learned how to operate their cell phones, use Google products, and internet safety.

“This donation that we just got from Spectrum allows us to give free computer classes for our older adults in our community,” said Sharon Fryman, Senior Program Director for Active Health Adults. “We’re offering four week sessions 10 times though the year, so they were able to get hundreds of people access to basic computer instruction.”

Digital literacy is a growing disparity among older adults, limiting their ability to access services and protect themselves online.
