Expert talks avoiding mistakes amid open enrollment

JACKSON, Tenn. — In just a few days, more than 67 million Americans enrolled in Medicare will face one of the most important healthcare decisions of the year.

Those enrolled in Medicare who do not review their coverage risk paying more or losing their access to the medications they need.

Pan Research has shown that higher premium costs are the top concern as open enrollment approaches.

Amy Niles, the Chief Mission Officer for the Pan Foundation, tells us the key dates to look out for.

“Open enrollment starts October 15th,” Niles said. “It goes until December 7th. Any changes made during this time period take effect on January 1st.”

More research has found that 68% of people have not changed their Medicare prescription coverage in the last three years.

It is always important to make sure that your coverage fits you best.

“Really take time this open enrollment to evaluate their options,” Niles said. “Don’t assume that your plan, as is, will meet your needs next year.”

Making the necessary changes can save you a lot of money in the future.
