Local Elementary School Gets Kids Moving On Literacy Night
TREZEVANT, Tenn. — West Carroll Elementary School in Trezevant hosted a story walk at the Trezevant walking track near the school.
The afternoon event was held to celebrate literacy night at the park adjacent to the school.
School principal Dr. Jessica Williams told us, “They will be reading the story of the big bad wolf telling his perspective on the story of the Three Little Pigs.”
The book this story walk is set up for is called “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.”
In the book the students hear from Alexander T. Wolf and how he claims he’s not a bad wolf at all.
While the book may be a work of fiction, these educators have a plan to spin this into a teaching moment.
“We’re going to be looking at point of view and characterization. The story is written on a fourth grade reading level so it should be accessible to most of our students and their families,” said Dr. Williams.
School staff provided cupcakes to those who completed the entire story walk.
The one lap around Trezevant Community Park’s trail is roughly one-ninth of a mile.
Principal Williams hopes this event will instill a love of learning and literacy in every student who attends.
