Study reveals gaps in care for colorectal cancer patients
JACKSON, Tenn. — One study highlights the gaps in care among people living with metastatic colorectal cancer.
The study finds 83% of MCRC patients wish they had more clarity and information at initial diagnosis.
And 74% felt overwhelmed by the information they were provided when they were diagnosed.
“What we learned from that is that we need more resources to help our patients navigate through the complex healthcare system and learn how to deal with day-to-day living while still living with metastatic colorectal cancer,” said Dr. Amit Mahipal, Professor & Gastrointestinal Oncology Program Leader, University Hospitals.
One patient living with MCRC encourages others to be advocates for themselves during the journey.
“You can go into these conversations with your doctors, listen to what they have to say, then you can kind of take the lead on the conversation because at the end of the day, it is your treatment plan,” said Jenna, a cancer patient.
