TN Public Charter School Commission overturns denial of Jackson Museum School
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Public Charter School Commission has overturned a decision to deny the proposed Jackson Museum School.
In July, the JMCSS Board of Education voted to deny an amended application from Jackson Museum Charter School. The board cited financial concerns among the reasons for their decision.
“A lot of it was the budget. It’s some things in there I just didn’t feel comfortable with,” said Harvey Walden, Jackson-Madison County School Board member.

In their report, however, the state charter commission found that Jackson Museum School’s proposed budget was “…sound and conservative, purposefully underestimating revenue while overestimating expenses to build a safety net.”
With the final decision from the state charter commission, Jackson Museum School and the JMCSS Board of Education now have 30 days to mutually agree that the charter school be overseen by the local board. If this does not happen, the State will become the authorizer.
