West Tennessee State Fair opens for 170th year
HENDERSON, Tenn. — It’s heading into late October, yet fair season is still going strong.
The West Tennessee State Fair, normally held in early September, kicked off earlier Thursday evening from a new location.
After 169 years of the fair taking place here in Madison County, we get a first glimpse of the West Tennessee State Fair’s new home.
This year’s West Tennessee State Fair was moved from Jackson to Henderson. The event started with the 2nd annual beef grill-off at 2 pm. After the cook-off, the opening ceremony officially started the fair at 4pm.
Several elected officials were present and spoke as a part of the ceremony.
Rides wouldn’t open for another hour after the ribbon was cut. State Senator Page Walley was overjoyed with the progress that’s been made at the new fairgrounds.
Senator Walley hopes to see other state fairs gain support from their surrounding communities.
“I’m gonna make sure that Nashville knows about it and that what we can do to support this fair and others like it,” said Walley.
Over the course of the next 10 days, visitors will have several attractions to view at the West Tennessee State Fair.
Carnival rides and food stands will offer plenty of smiles for many. Livestock shows will be available Saturday, Monday and Tuesday with each day featuring a different animal.
