Pope School holds ribbon cutting ceremony

JACKSON, Tenn. — Pope School in Jackson held a ribbon cutting for a grand reopening.

Pope School is an integral part of history in the city of Jackson and the school dates back to 1909.

Starting in 2019, Pope School’s PTO began petitioning for a new building and in 2022 the Jackson-Madison County School System was granted funds for this building.

The new building opened for students at the beginning of the school year in August.

Superintendent Dr. Marlon King says this was a lengthy process, but he is proud of the effort taken to support students and teachers in the Jackson-Madison County School System.

“This right here is just part of the ministry making sure that students and teachers are in a space where they can promote learning, advanced learning and also be able to have access to advanced technology,” said Dr. King.

Dr. King says Pope School is unique from other schools in the Jackson-Madison County area.

“It is important to realize that the diversity in this building is about 15 languages spoken in this building right here and so of course that sets it apart from many of our schools in our district,” said Dr. King.

The staff of Pope School says this is a surreal experience, and that the dream is now a reality.

Pope School is currently the largest and most expensive school in the district and serves children from the grades of pre-k to the eighth grade.
