Madison County Health hosts free flu shot event for the community

JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County Health offered free flu shots all day Tuesday in Jackson.

This is something they have participated in for a number of years.

People were able to show up, no appointment necessary, and get a free standard flu shot.

In just a few short minutes, you could fill out your form, get your shot, and be completely done.

Ginger Rowsey, with Madison County Health, explained why these shots are important.

“Getting a flu shot is so important because it is the best way to protect yourself from the flu,” Rowsey said. “Safe, quick, effective. It is really important that everyone in the community get their flu shot, because the more people that get vaccinated, the less it can spread in the community.”

This event was also beneficial for a different reason. It was able to give their team some very impactful practice in case certain situations arise.

“We’re practicing in the event that we need to do something like a mass vaccination event,” said Rowsey. “So it is a good time for our medical professionals to practice this while also offering these free flu shots to the community.”

This event is part of a statewide program that many health departments around Tennessee participated in.
