Mild End To The Work Week

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

A mild and fair pattern has emerged for the remainder of the work week, but the chance for rain looms over the weekend and into early next week. We have your forecast details coming up right here.

Tonight:

Tonight will be another chilly night, but the chances for temperatures dropping below 40 degrees is much lower than it was this morning. Areas west of Jackson have a higher chance of milder temperatures overnight than those east of the Hub City. Gusty winds from this afternoon will also die down to almost completely calm.

Cold

Thursday:

Thursday will likely be a repeat of Wednesday, but a couple degrees warmer. Skies will remain mostly to completely clear, with a light breeze from the west around 3 to 5 MPH. Temperatures Thursday Night will likely fall a bit farther east of Jackson, but again the chance for lows in the upper 30s is low right now.

Friday:

Cold

Friday will be another chilly start for most of West Tennessee especially for those east of Jackson. Short range models are hinting at starts in the upper 30s for towns along the banks of the Tennessee River. Cloud cover will begin to move into the area Friday Afternoon ahead of the weekend system. As of Thursday Morning, rain is not in the forecast for Fridays slate of football games. Because of the increase in cloud cover, Friday night will be relatively warm, with lows only bottoming out in the low 50s.

Saturday:

As of Thursday Morning, much of West Tennessee has around a 50% chance of picking up some rain on Saturday night. While the many models hold off rain until Sunday or Monday, there will be sufficient ingredients in place for at least some stratiform rain as a low pressure system passes near West Tennessee. This low pressure looks to pass through Northwest of Jackson Sunday Evening. Through 12:00 PM on 10/29 (Next Wednesday), long range models suggest somewhere between 1-2 inches of rainfall for the region.

Fall Update:

Fall is still on its way to West Tennessee, but with the extremely warm early October we had, it is no surprise that we’ll be expecting a late first freeze this year. The average first freeze for Jackson is October 28th. We currently do not have a freeze forecast for next Tuesday, and due to the rain in the forecast, even a frost is also unlikely. Our nearest chance at a first frost or freeze according to long range models is the first week of November, which would be slightly later than average, but still almost four weeks earlier than the record of November 28th set in 2004.
