Safe Hope Center celebrates 10 years of impacting lives
JACKSON, Tenn. — A local community asset that has benefitted thousands celebrated 10 years of service Wednesday morning.
A decade ago, the Safe Hope Center in Jackson opened its doors. It is a collaboration of agencies who serve victims of domestic violence and sexual violence.
Wednesday morning, leaders of these agencies spoke about the center and what it has accomplished over the last decade.
“There were six family justice centers in the State of Tennessee and today there are 14,” said Jennifer McCraw, Director of the Safe Hope Center. “Because the Office of Criminal Justice programs helping fund those to get started, they have increased. The two latest, which are very close to us, are Brownsville and Lexington.”
Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley spoke at the event, and gave some numbers regarding the amount of people that have been served here.
“In the 10 years since it officially opened in October of 2015, they have worked an astounding 9,294 cases,” said Chief Corley.
But there were a few months before the doors opened that people were helped.
“When we factor in those early months, we have surpassed 9,500 cases of provided crisis intervention support and a path forward to victims and their families,” added Corley.
West Tennessee Legal Services is also involved with the Safe Hope Center. Ashley Holliday, the Executive Director, shares some of the work they have been able to do here.
“Over the years we have served over 2,500 clients through Safe Hope Center with civil orders of protections, divorces, child custody matters. That’s 2,500 lives changed,” Holliday said.
The core of the center is to provide one place where someone who has experienced domestic violence or sexual assault can talk to an advocate, plan for their safety, and many other services.
“The impact of this collaboration is undeniable,” said Mamie Hutcherson, Executive Director of WRAP. “In 2024 alone, WRAP served 542 survivors right here at Safe Hope Center. That represents more than just individuals.”
The facility is located at 512 Roland Avenue in Jackson.
