Sunny Hill School receives playground upgrade after large donation
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Sunny Hill School in Brownsville celebrated the renovation of a new playground with a ribbon cutting.
The playground consists of new equipment and fencing. This redevelopment was made possible with the help of the Ford Good Neighbor Plan.
The plan helps to create community spaces, which includes supplying safe and convenient places for kids to play and learn.
“I think everyone could appreciate how important having safe and accessible outdoor play spaces are for kids not just for their physical well being, but also for their emotional and mental well being,” said Gabby Bruno, director of community relations for Ford Motor Company.
Sunny Hill School has almost 400 students and these students were playing on equipment that was decades old before the upgrade.
Superintendent of Haywood County Schools Amie Marsh says this has been a long awaited moment and the feeling is indescribable.
“I mean I could not tell you how much joy it fills my heart with to see them out here. To see them walk down that hill for the first time and walk through those gates you could see the anticipation you could see the excitement,” said Marsh.
With the equipment, students are able to thoroughly enjoy their break from the classroom.
“It’s a good experience. I like how there’s a bunch more different things to do this time and we’ve been playing somewhere else and I felt like it was just a time to come out here and have a good time,” said Miller, 6th grade student.
With this upgrade, there is hope that the students will get to play on this new equipment for years to come.
The Ford Good Neighbor Plan’s donation of $650,000 also helped upgrade three other schools in Haywood County.
