What’s New Wednesday: Broken Barn Farm Stand

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Broken Barn Farm Stand opened earlier this year in Henderson County.

Similar to a small farmers market, visitors can find locally-sourced fruits, vegetables, and more.

“We offer fresh produce, and we get everything from local farmers, Amish or Mennonites, and if we have to get it somewhere else, we are sure to tell our customers which state it came out of,” said co-owner Amanda Barker.

Owners Amanda and Wendell Barker are proud to offer a resource for fresh produce free from pesticides, all in the spirit of promoting healthy eating.

Broken Barn also offers items like plants and shrubbery, along with baked goods such as homemade cookies, which are part of the original inspiration behind the business.

“I started out baking cookies, under a little tent, and our tent got [blown] away, so then we decided we loved dealing with the community so much and interacting with everybody each day, that we went ahead and built a permanent structure,” Amanda Barker said.

“I have farmed with cows on and off my whole life, and when I was a kid, my grandfather had a little farm stand, and we enjoyed it very much coming up,” added Wendell Barker.

The stand accepts multiple forms of payment, including cash, Venmo, Cash App and checks. Although the Barkers are nearing the end of their current season, they plan to reopen in the spring, and expect to be able to accept card payments at that time.

The Barkers say they’ve enjoyed awesome support from the community so far, and are happy to make customer service a main priority.

“If anything that comes from us is bad – say you get a watermelon and you get home and it’s bad – we will replace that watermelon, no questions asked,” Amanda Barker said.

Broken Barn Farm Stand is located at 8435 Highway 22 South in Lexington. They’re open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
