Dyersburg man arrested after hours-long standoff with police
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE DYERSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT:
DYERSBURG — Dyersburg Police Department‘s Special Operations Response Team (SORT) arrested a man on Wednesday night after nearly a five-hour standoff.

Jabrell Gauldin, 22, of Dyersburg, is being held in the Dyer County Jail on charges of especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at 9 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2025.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the job done by our officers, from the first ones on the scene to our Special Operations Response Team,” said Dyersburg Police Chief Thomas Langford. “They contained and controlled the situation and were able to take Mr. Gauldin into custody without any serious injuries to him or anyone else during this incident or his arrest.”
Police were dispatched to an address on Hillcrest Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. regarding a complaint of a possible domestic disturbance. Officers arrived to find Gauldin and two others inside but could not get anyone to the door. SORT was notified after officers received information that Gauldin had a gun and was holding the others inside.
DPD negotiators, with assistance from Gauldin’s family, successfully negotiated with him and convinced him to come outside peacefully. Gauldin was taken into custody by the SORT tactical squad at about 11:35 p.m.
Officers recovered a handgun that was disassembled and scattered in the apartment as a result of a search warrant applied for and granted after Gauldin’s arrest.
