Citizens of Lexington gather for City Council Meeting
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Many residents showed up at Lexington’s routine council meeting Monday evening to discuss several agenda items that aim to push best interest of the city into perspective.
We spoke with newly-elected Mayor Gordon Wildridge. A former alderman, we got his thoughts on serving the community in a different capacity.
“It’s going on my fourth week and we’ve had a lot of things…mainly potholes like I told in the meeting but we’re getting down to the nuts and bolts on what we need to do and everybody seems to be cooperating. We’re moving forward with the new board and quite frankly we made some good improvements tonight on policy and how hiring is going to go,” said Lexington Mayor Gordon Wildridge.
Mayor Wildridge tells us one of the most crucial items on the agenda.
“One of the most important things we hashed out tonight I believe is how we’re going to handle the hiring and do the money to make sure that we don’t overspend in our budget and keep track of it. That’s the most important thing,” said Mayor Wildridge.
During Monday’s meeting new positions throughout the city were announced.
“We’ve elected a new vice mayor and that is Donna Ross. We reappointed a city judge and that’s Mary Jowers. Chip Clark is one of the new alderman and Donna Ross is one of the new alderman. We’ve had an election and the voters have spoken and they want a few changes to make and we intend to do it. We’re moving forward with it and I think everyone is accepting it and doing an exceptional job,” added Mayor Wildridge.
Public concerns from the community were acknowledged along with a new structure in place to have more efficient council meetings in the future.
