8 West Tennessee communities receive funding for outdoor recreation projects

PINSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation presented ceremonial checks to eight area recipients for outdoor recreation projects.

Areas in West Tennessee received funds totaling more than $1 million. The city of Bells received a grant of $400,000, and the city of Huntingdon received a grant of $292,500.

Six other areas received planning grants between $48,000 and $72,000.

Those areas are: Crockett, Decatur County, Dyer County, Gibson County and the cities of Dresden and Milan.

“At this particular event, this is all about West Tennessee, is make sure our rural communities have a great opportunity to build up their recreation facilities, their recreation planning,” said Greer Tidwell, deputy commissioner for TDEC.

These highly competitive grants are given out annually by the state.
