JSCC nursing students receive hands-on experience during mock disaster

JACKSON, Tenn. — JSCC nursing students participated in a mock disaster Thursday to learn how to perform medical care in various environments and situations alongside local emergency agencies.

Scenarios in previous years have included explosions, tornado aftermath, active shooters, and more.

Students act in the role of first responders, victims, bystanders, secondary triage in an ER setting set up in a tent, and on-scene management. Ambulances, helicopter fire trucks, and police presence will be on-scene for the event.

This year’s theme was an active shooter scenario taking place at the softball field with 15 mock casualties and a total of 30 students involved.
