Local restaurant expands age range of free kid’s buffet due to looming SNAP cuts

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Farmhouse Country Cafeteria in Lexington is feeding all children 12 and under for free at their buffet. The owner says it’s because of the looming cut to snap benefits.

Co-owner Bob Roberts explains that they have always allowed children 5 and under eat for free at the buffet, but he wanted to extend it to 12 and under because of the impact of the government shutdown.

“What’s important to me is our gratitude. We’re so grateful for the community we live in, we’re so grateful for the community support that we get. I think the whole thing is a great way to show that we care. As far as our community response; it’s so overwhelming. I never realized that we were gonna get 1,300 likes and shares on our social media page,” said Roberts.

Farmhouse Country Cafeteria is located at 93 College Drive in Lexington.
