Community Foundation donates $20,000 in hunger relief grants to local nonprofits
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF WEST TENNESSEE:
JACKSON, Tenn. – In response to the unfolding situation surrounding a delay in SNAP benefits and its impact in the region, the Community Foundation of West Tennessee donated $20,000 in hunger relief assistance to two local nonprofits.
- $10,000 to RIFA: RIFA serves Madison County as a leader in the fight against hunger through several ministries, including the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank, and Bus Stop Café. Many families are turning to RIFA for their food needs, and the organization is committed to serving those affected by the changes to SNAP.
 - $10,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank: Second Harvest Food Bank is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to the food and resources people need to thrive. The agency is responding to the situation by reallocating funds and food supplies, expanding food distributions, prioritizing emergency food boxes and staple items, and more. Second Harvest serves Benton, Carroll, Chester, Decatur, Gibson, Hardin, Henderson, Henry, and Weakley Counties in West Tennessee.
 - These emergency response grants will provide critical funding to ongoing operations for food assistance organizations as they see an increased demand in services. Funding allows them to pivot and purchase necessary resources for individuals and families who are affected by the delay.

“Our primary purpose is to support our friends and neighbors, and right now, many are facing a devastating challenge,” said Beth Koffman, Chief Operating Officer for the Community Foundation. “The vital need our community is facing from the disruption in benefits is impacting struggling families, seniors, and working individuals. Immediate action is needed to fund our local pantries, ensuring they have the resources to meet the increased demand.”
In addition to these initial grants, the Community Foundation launched an appeal for monetary donations, which will be used to provide more grants to other local food banks, meal programs, and partners across rural West Tennessee.
All gifts received between now and November 15, 2025, will be matched by the Community Foundation up to $40,000. Donations may be made online at www.cfwtn.org/hunger or by mail to 74 Directors Row, Jackson, TN 38305.
