Prison employee released from hospital after attack

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. – A correctional officer at Hardeman County Correctional Facility has been released from the hospital after being assaulted by an inmate on October 28.

CoreCivic manages and operates the facility and confirmed on Tuesday, November 4, that the officer has been released from the hospital. According to Brian Todd, Public Affairs for CoreCivic, the assault incident is being investigated by the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

“On October 28, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an emergency was called regarding an assault on a correctional officer by an inmate at the Hardeman County Correctional Facility (HCCF). Facility staff immediately responded to the area and brought the situation under control. Facility medical staff made a medical assessment of those involved in the incident, provided emergency first aid to the injured correctional officer, and called for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). EMS arrived to the facility and transported the injured officer to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries,” said Todd. “The officer has since been released from the hospital. Our partners at the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) were notified and are investigating the incident with full cooperation from facility staff and leadership. As this is an ongoing investigation, there are no additional details to share at this time.”

TDOC Public Information Officer Bradley Canada confirmed the incident was under investigation, but did not provide any additional information or comment.

The inmate that assaulted the officer has not been identified by CoreCivic or TDOC.
