Andrea Bond Johnson announces campaign for Tennessee House of Representatives

PRESS RELEASE:

(District 80, Tenn. – November 6, 2025) Small business owner and community leader Andrea Bond Johnson recently announced her campaign for the Tennessee House of Representatives at the October meeting of the Madison County Democratic Party, pledging to fight for affordability, opportunity and common-sense leadership in rural Tennessee.

District 80, the only rural Democratic seat in the state, has become one of the most competitive in 2025 after redistricting. Bond Johnson says she’s ready for the challenge.

“Families in our district are being stretched to the limit,” said Bond Johnson. “We need leaders who understand what people are going through and know how to solve problems, not play politics.”

A respected small business owner with deep community roots, Bond Johnson has already demonstrated her ability to build broad support. In 2020, prior to redistricting, she ran for House District 82 where she outperformed President Joe Biden, earning votes from Republicans and independents who saw her as a trustworthy, solutions-focused leader who puts her community first.

Bond Johnson has long been deeply involved in the civic life of Haywood County. She currently serves on the Industrial Development Board, the Brownsville Rotary Club Board, the Haywood County Boys & Girls Club, the Haywood County Branch NAACP Executive Board and the National Social Action Commission of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her work has focused on growing local jobs, strengthening youth development and expanding opportunities for families across West Tennessee.

She has also previously served on the Tennessee State University Foundation Board, the WRAP Board, Reading Railroad Board, Carl Perkins Board, the Brownsville Planning Commission and the Professional Insurance Agents Association, giving her firsthand experience in economic development, education support and community safety.

Policy priorities include:

  • Affordability: Helping working and middle-class families facing rising costs of groceries, gas and health insurance
  • Supporting Caregivers: Strengthening childcare, elder care and family leave policies for families caring for multiple generations at once
  • Standing with Farmers: Addressing market instability caused by years of trade wars and fighting to keep farm profits local
  • Stronger Public Schools: Increasing teacher pay and classroom funding, and refocusing education away from political agendas
  • Health Care Access: Expanding TennCare and protecting rural hospitals from closure
  • Rural Revitalization: Investing in infrastructure, broadband and workforce training to strengthen small towns

“I’m running because I love this community,” said Bond Johnson. “We deserve a representative who listens, tells the truth and gets things done. That’s what I’ve always done in business and that’s what I’ll do in Nashville.”
