Veterans honored at Field of Heroes ceremony

DRESDEN, Tenn.—Veterans are being honored at a Weakley County School ahead of Veterans Day.

The Field of Heroes ceremony was held Saturday at Dresden Middle School. The service kicked off at 11a.m.

The ceremony invited members of the community to join in honoring local veterans for a shared moment of gratitude and remembrance.

Memorial flags fill the school’s lawn as each one represents and serves to remember the courage, and sacrifice of each veteran.

Each flag includes a veteran’s name and stands for a symbol of bravery and unrelenting patriotism.

The not-for-profit program was made possible by educators from Dresden Middle, the Northwest Tennessee Eagle Riders, as well as other community partners.

“We’ve had quite a few students at Dresden Middle School, past students who have served, and some of them are commemorated out here on the field. A lot of our students brought flags for their families; sponsored flags, so they come out and look at their mother, their father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and they see their name in that field. And so they feel that connection,” said Pam Copeland, Retired teacher at Dresden Middle.

There is still time to view the Field of Heroes. The display will continue at Dresden Middle School through November 23.
