New study analyzes the state of youth sports
JACKSON, Tenn. — New findings reveal the state of youth club sports in the United States.

Youth sports is a growing industry with over six million athletes across the country.
The Jersey Census found that 72% of people feel that club sports are more competitive now than recreational sports.
“The change in recent years is really that club sports is so much more than competition nowadays,” said Brian Fleming, Senior VP & General Manager, Club Direct for BSN Sports. “Competition’s certainly there, that’s not lost, but it’s also about belonging, development, and community.”

According to the survey, athletes and parents reported that burnout occurs at least twice a year.
Fleming encourages people to be realistic about the time and family commitment youth sports require.
“It is really easy to get caught up in the travel and tournaments every single weekend, but having rest and other fun activities is definitely critical to keeping the kids motivated and excited to play the sport,” Fleming said.
