Memphis Safe Task Force and MPD make arrest in Wolfchase shooting

Memphis, Tennessee – The Memphis Safe Task Force announces the arrest of Yahir Alejandro Mejia, 23, for Second Degree Murder.

On November 17, 2025, at approximately 2:09 p.m., the Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to reports of a shooting at the Wolfchase Galleria, located at 2760 N Germantown Parkway. One male victim was shot multiple times and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later declared deceased.

The victim has been identified; his identity is not disclosed at this time to ensure proper notification of family members.

Through enhanced interagency collaboration, Mejia was quickly identified as the suspect. Memphis Police Department officers, working alongside Task Force members, responded to the mall. Mejia, however, was alleged to have fled the area in a white SUV.

Within a very short period of time, Memphis Safe Task Force teams immediately began surveillance of Mejia’s known addresses. Investigators interviewed Mejia’s mother, who stated he was on his way to her residence. Mejia arrived shortly thereafter and was met by Task Force members. He attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured by Task Force personnel. It is alleged that the victim and Mejia were involved in an altercation prior to the shooting.

“The Memphis Safe Task Force represents the very best of collaboration between local, state, and federal partners,” said Tyreece Miller, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Tennessee. “Through swift and coordinated action, we are building safer environments for the citizens of Memphis, ensuring this community can continue to thrive with confidence in its security.”

“Yesterday’s arrest was an example of the determination of the Memphis Police Department, our federal partners with the Memphis Safe Task Force, and our Homicide Investigators to keep violent offenders off our streets. Their work ensured this individual was identified and taken into custody without delay. Our commitment to protecting our city remains steadfast, and we will continue working every day to build a Stronger, Safer Memphis.” -said Chief Cerelyn ‘CJ’ Davis, Memphis Police Department.
