Severe Storm Threat Up North Tonight, More Storm Chances Later this Week!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
We are watching a couple of storms going up just northwest of the boot-hill of Missouri that are tracking east but also dropping south. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk (2/5) for our norther counties that border Missouri and Kentucky. These storms will move into West Tennessee as early as 7pm and could last past Midnight. The greatest threat is our area will be between 8pm-11pm and large hail will be the main hazard. There could be a tornado or two as well so we will need to watch these storms closely as the move into our area. The storm energy is low but the rotation is high. A severe thunderstorm watch could be issued this evening but it depends on how these initial storms behave. Catch the full forecast coming up right here.
THIS WEEK:
Tuesday was a warm one with highs in the mid to upper 70s as we will be sitting under a warm front all day long. The warm front will bring southwest winds that will be a bit breezy at times during the afternoon and evening hours creating a moderately unstable atmosphere. It was a mostly cloudy day and there were some early day showers and storms near the Kentucky border but most of us will not see much in the way of rain chances until Tuesday evening/night when a cold front will drift through. Tuesday night lows will down to the low 60s.
Some rotating little storms may move in West Tennessee this evening and track to the east-southeast. These little supercells will try to rotate. There might not be enough low level ingredients and storm energy to spawn tornadoes but it is going to be close.
Some large hail seems more likely with these storms if they do hold together as they move into West Tennessee. The storms will slowly weaken as the night goes on with the severe weather threat ending before they reach I-40. If you are in our northern counties you need to stay weather aware this evening.
Temperatures will be a little cooler on Wednesday but not much cooler because the cold front will turn up stationary and drift back to the north during the afternoon. Any rain that comes in Tuesday night should be moving out by Wednesday morning and the rest of the day on Wednesday will be dry. Expect a partly cloudy day on Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 70s, We will remain dry on Wednesday night and fall down to the mid to upper 70s with the winds changing from the northwest to the south late in the day.
More rain is coming on Thursday but not until the afternoon or evening hours. There could be a couple of weak storms on Thursday but severe weather of strong storms are not expected at this time. Clouds will also increase during the day and expect a mostly cloudy back half of the day. Highs on Thursday will reach the mid 70s and Thursday night lows will only drop down to around 60°. We will be under another warm front on Thursday, just like Tuesday. The winds will come out of the south all day long and be a tad breezy.
The greatest chances for storms and the heaviest rain this week appears to be coming in on Friday. The timing of the storms and heaviest rain is still being determined but there is a decent shot as of now that some of the Friday night games will be impacted but rain showers and maybe some storms. Overall this does not look like a big severe weather maker for us but will keep an eye on it as the week goes on. Highs on Friday will reach the mid 70s and Friday night lows will fall down to the mid 50s. Rain showers will probably continue Friday night into Saturday morning. The winds on Friday will come out of the southwest before moving to the northwest when the front passes by.
THE WEEKEND:
Rain showers will probably hang around on Saturday. There is a shot the rain clears out by Saturday morning but there is also a chances some of the showers linger in the middle of the day as well. Current thoughts are Sunday is more likely to be dry than Saturday but there is a lot to be determined still on the weekend forecast. Expect a mix of sun and clouds this weekend with the winds in general having a northerly component to them. Usually in November northerly winds means we get a shot for a freeze but there is nothing shows that being likely this time behind the early weekends front. Highs are expected to be in the mid 60s this weekend with morning lows on Saturday in the mid 40s and mid 40s by Sunday morning. We should stay out of the 30s for both Saturday and Sunday nights.
