Winter Weather Advisory Issued, Impacts Monday Evening And Overnight
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
A Winter Weather Advisory will take effect in most of West Tennessee starting Monday evening at 3:00 P.M and lasting through 6 A.M. Tuesday morning.
Slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses will be possible as early as late this afternoon into the evening hours.
Temperatures:
It has already been very cold this morning as temperatures are in the mid 20s with northeast winds up to 10 mph driving the windchill down to the upper teens. Take a coat heading out!
What To Expect:
Rain will enter the picture as scattered showers around 2 pm this afternoon and some of the rain could glaze on bridges and overpasses as freezing rain from 3 -7 pm. As temperatures get colder into the late evening, we’ll deal with scattered areas of sleet and snow.
Accumulations:
Any ice accumulations from freezing rain look very light under 1/10th of an inch with sleet and snow totals a little higher, especially northward.
Continued:
and most of the accumulations will result from sleet and snow with higher accumulations generally over the north counties. Either way, accumulations are mainly under 1/2″ and will be short lived as temperatures warm above freezing tomorrow. Check ahead before leaving out late tonight or in the early morning as there could be some delays and/or closings.
Final Thoughts:
Impacts will be light. This will be a short lived event, as temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by Tuesday afternoon. Also, there is no need to rush to the store, as ice accumulations high enough to cause power grid issues are also not expected. Because of this, we have our storm threat scale at a 2/5 for light travel impacts only.
