Winter Storm Moving Out Thursday Night!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
There was some snow earlier today in Dyer, Weakley and Obion counties and we saw some sleet mixing in here in Jackson as well as locations in Gibson and Carroll counties. Around 3:30pm most of it is coming down as a cold rain. If the showers stick around after the sun goes down we might fall down closer to freezing in Jackson and a brief period of light snow still could come down. Any snow accumulations seem unlikely and travel impacts will be minimal. There could be a few slick bridges in the early morning but overall, the roads should be just fine. The National Weather Service is not going to issue a winter weather advisory at this time. The big question left is, how long with the showers be sticking around for and we will have a detailed look at the forecast coming up here.
THIS WEEK:
Wednesday nights front will stall just to our south and a low pressure system was close enough and tracked through Thursday into the afternoon and evening and brought another round of cold rain, a wintry mix and even some light snow showers. Thursday system is not going to bring as much precipitation with it as Monday night’s storm and didn’t create any major travel impacts. This was a very challenging forecast with the temperature being off by a degree or two was going to make a big difference.
We did see some snow up north and some afternoon sleet for most of us. The longer the showers stick around tonight the more likely it is that some of the cold rain will start to turn back over to a wintry mix or light snow. The greatest chances for that will be after the sun goes down which might drop the temperatures down a couple more degree. Accumulations are not expected regardless if we see the snow or not.
Thursday highs reached up to around 40° and it was cloudy all day long. The clouds will stick around all night long and the winds will be light out of the north and calm by the morning. Anything falling in any form of precipitation should wrap up by sunrise on Friday. Friday will be partly cloudy but still cold. Highs will reach the low to mid 40s and Friday night lows will fall down to around 30° to kick off our weekend. The winds will be calm for the most part on Friday.
THE WEEKEND:
Temperatures are forecast to be a little warmer this weekend with highs making it up to around 50°. Both mornings will hang in the low 30s but Sunday night we could fall back into the mid to upper 20s again. There will be another system moving through the weekend but as of now, it looks to bring a few cold rain showers if anything at all on Sunday. Depending on the timing of the system we can’t rule out a brief wintry mix or even some light snow at this time but we are leaning towards a cold rain at this time. The winds will be calm on Saturday and come out of the west on Sunday and back to the north Sunday night into Monday. Expect a mostly sunny day on Saturday but a mostly cloudy day on Sunday. The front should pass late in the day on Sunday.
NEXT WEEK:
After the showers wrap up on Sunday, another dry period will move in to kick off the upcoming work week. Temperatures will be chilly on Monday behind Sunday’s cold front. Highs will only reach the mid 40s again on Monday and expect a light breeze out of the north. Clouds will break up as the day goes on as well and we are expecting a mostly sunny day on Tuesday. As the skies clear out Monday night lows will fall down to the mid to upper 20s again. During the day on Tuesday the winds will shift back to the southwest and that should warm up back up into the 50s for the middle of the week. We could get close to 60° on Wednesday before the next front passing late in the day. A few showers will be possible on Wednesday but as of now, it is looking like a mostly dry front. Highs will drop back into the mid 40s for Thursday.
