Little Cooler Thursday, Near 60° Friday, FRIGID on Sunday!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
For the first time in over 2 weeks and for the first time in December temperatures were above normal in Jackson reaching the mid 50s today for most of us. The warmer weather did come at the expense of some breezy southwest winds that will weaken later tonight. We will be about 10° cooler on Thursday but back up near 60° on Friday. The next front is coming in late Friday and a more potent front will move through this weekend. Temperatures could fall into the teens this weekend and single digit wind chills will be possible for most of us on Sunday. Sunday is going to be by far the coldest day of the fall. Catch the latest on it all coming up here.
Today and tonight is the 4 year anniversary of the deadliest December tornado outbreak we have ever seen. In total there were 71 tornadoes and 89 people lost their lives (most of them were in Kentucky including many in Mayfield. We had two long tracked supercells that spawned an EF3 and an EF4 tornado. Each were on the ground for over 90 minutes and each tracked over 80 miles. We could be looking at another chance for severe weather around Christmas but forecast models 14 days out are often not to be trusted.
THIS WEEK:
Breezy southwest winds returned on Wednesday and they turned to the northwest as the afternoon went on. Those winds warm us up to the mid to upper 50s and above average. Wednesday was our first day above average in over two weeks and the first time for the month of December. Clouds moved in late in the day as the next front will move in the afternoon and evening hours. For us, it was a dry and weak front and will only cool things down around 10° as it passes by. Wednesday night lows will cool down to around 30°.
Thursday and Friday look to be mostly sunny days. Highs will reach up to around 50° on Thursday but back into the upper 50s for Friday. Both days look dry and the winds will have a southerly component to them both days. The clear skies will make for some cold overnights though. Thursday night will fall down to the mid 30s and Friday night lows should be cooler fall into the upper 20s to kick off our weekend as a weak dry front will pass late in the day on Friday. Friday’s front will come in from the north.
THE WEEKEND:
A powerful cold blast is on the way for the upcoming weekend. The system will move through on Saturday afternoon and it looks like it will not be bringing any showers with it to West Tennessee. The system will have two fronts, one late Friday night and the main front coming in late Saturday. Highs on Saturday will only reach the upper 40s from Friday nights front. Saturday’s system will be a low pressure area followed by a potent front. The front will drop us down to around 20° by Sunday morning.
Sunday is going to be a very cold day with highs only reaching the low 30s or some only the upper 20s. Sunday night could be the coldest night so far this fall with lows down in the upper teens. The wind child Sunday morning could drop into the single digits and stay around 20° during the middle of the day on Sunday. Expect a mostly sunny day on Saturday and a sunny but brisk day on Sunday. Skies should stay clear Sunday night and that will keep us cold as we head into next week. The winds will be breezy at times this weekend and come out of the north behind the fronts making for a blustery and stinging wind.
