THIS WEEK:

Highs made it up to near 60° on Monday but that was be the coolest day of the work week. Highs made it up to near 70° on Tuesday and be even warmer than that from Christmas Eve through the first half of the weekend. Skies will remain cloudy tonight and a few sprinkles will be possible as a weak cold front will slide just to the north of us. That front could lead to a few morning showers on Wednesday but we are not expecting much if we get anything to fall at all. Overnight lows will drop into the lows 60s for several mornings in a row. The winds will stay out of the southwest until late in the day on Sunday.

Tuesday night lows will fall down to around 60° and Santa will also be flying around a thick humid and warm air mass Wednesday night also around 60°. There will be more sun than clouds in the middle of the week but the sun will try to peek through at times. Showers and storms are not expected in the middle of the week but the winds will be breezy at times and come out of the southwest as a big area of high pressure will be sitting around the mid gulf coast.

The winds will kick up a bit on Christmas and Friday but remain out of the southwest keeping the temperatures up. Highs will reach the mid 70s and the records will be 75-76° from Thursday through Saturday. Each day during that period we are going to be close to the record. It will all depend on how long the sun peeks through each of those days to determine if we get the record or not. Warm and humid weather will be added by those southwest winds keeping or overnight lows in  the low 60s until late in the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

The weekend is going to be the tale of two days. The first day (Saturday) is going to be warm, windy and humid. Highs will reach the mid 70s near record highs before a powerful arctic blast of a cold front comes crashing through early on the day on Sunday. There will be a 50 temperature drop from Saturday evening to Monday morning when lows will fall all the way down to the mid 20s. There will be some showers and maybe even some storm activity on Sunday as the front moves through.

As of now, the greatest threat for storms will be south of I-40 Sunday in the afternoon or evening. Depending on the timing of the front, more of us could encounter the showers and storms and the severity of the event might also kick up a bit. We will be watching things closely this week in the 7 Storm Team Weather Center as the system gets a little closer.
