Children’s Programs at JMC Library January 2026

JACKSON, Tenn. –  The Jackson-Madison County Library has several ongoing programs for children this month.

The library will be closed January 1st and January 19th.

Join the Winter Reading Challenge! For the months of January & February:

-Pick up a bookmark to track your reading

-Bring it in to show us for a tiny prize

-See how much you can read!

Story Time: Little ones & their caregivers gather to listen to a story, sing, dance, craft, & make friends. Mondays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays at 10:30. Each week has a theme as follows: National Show n’ Tell Day January 5, 6, 8 Bring something from home or just show off a special talent or skill!; Appreciate a Dragon Day January 12, 13, 15 Spend some time with us celebrating the coolest fire-breathing creatures; National Grandpa Day January 20, 22 Enjoy some stories & a craft about grandfathers; National Storytelling Week January 26, 27, 29 Only the best will do for this week’s storytime. Come hear good stories!

Saturdays:

International Creativity Month January 10. Drop in today to make a beautiful snowflake to decorate our library.

Mr. Potato Head’s Birthday January 24 at 10:30. Enjoy a potato themed Story Time and play with our favorite classic toy for his big day!

Pokemon Trading Day Last Saturday of the month 11:00-12:00. January 31. Bring your Pokemon cards to trade or play with other fans.

Classic Game Club Every Wednesday at 10 am. January 7, 14, 21 & 28. Come play classic card and board games with us! Checkers, chess, spades, mahjong and more!

Get Out of the House & Play Friday, January 2 10:30-12:30. A morning to hang out and play games, Legos, and toys with other kids.

Family American Sign Language Every Monday at 12 pm January 5, 12 & 26; February 2, 9 & 23. Join us for a half-hour of ASL for the whole family! Learn family signs, animal, weather, feelings, and more!

All Ages Afternoon Art Friday at 3:30 pm. January 9, 16, 23 & 30. Join us every Friday for art of all kinds! Let your creativity run wild and try new things!

Coding Club January 8 & 22 at 3:30 pm. Come hang out with fellow programmers and practice your coding! Ages 9+

Open Space Hours – Tuesdays, 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm; Saturdays, 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. In the MakerSpace, come use our supplies to work on your passions or try something new!

Teen Programs at JMC Library January 2026

JACKSON, Tenn. –  The Jackson-Madison County Library has several ongoing programs for teens and tweens this month.

The library will be closed January 1st and January 19th.

Teen Space Hours Ages 13 – 19. Monday – Thursday 2:30-7; Fridays 2:30-4:30; Saturdays 10-4. 

Holiday Hours Dec. 22 – Jan. 5 11 am to 7 pm Mon-Thurs; 10-4 pm Fri-Sat

Teens! Enjoy our Hot Cocoa Bar every Saturday and on days school is out, while supplies last.

Turning 13 in January? Every First Saturday at 12:00 pm. January 3rd. Celebrate in the Teen Area with cake and ice cream! Please RSVP if you want your name on the cake at JMCLTeenArea@gmail.com Parents and siblings are welcome to join the party!

Teen Advisory Board Every 1st Wednesday 4-5 pm. January 7th. Come and earn service hours by contributing your ideas and opinions about Teen programming.

Teen Cooking January 10, 12-2pm. Make your own tea blend! Teens are welcome to join us in the teen area to create their own tea blend, while supplies last.

Board Game Afternoon January 14, 3 pm until 5 pm. Bring your friends or come solo and play some of our favorite board games with us! More than just Monopoly and Clue, play games you’ve never played before!

Open Space Hours: Tuesdays, 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Saturdays, 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.

Tween & Teen Brown Bag Homeschool Hangout Wednesdays 12:30- 2:30 pm. January 7, 14, 21, & 28. Every Wednesday afternoon ages 11 to 19 are welcome to come and hang out in the teen area. Kids can play games, work puzzles, do crafts, or just sit and socialize! Bring a cold lunch!

Dungeons & Dragons Nights are every first and third Thursday at 5:00 pm. January 15. Our games are currently full, so we are not accepting new players at this time. If you would like to join the waiting list, register with the link: forms.gle/6hrUBNQ9uFzVjJrPA  

Werewolf Game Day Ages 11-19. January 12th 4-6pm.

NEW!! Teen + 1 Program Tuesdays, 12:30 to 1:45 January 13 & 20. Teens can come and enjoy all the fun things the teen space offers while having the option for a caregiver to be nearby for extra support. A parent or grandparent will be permitted in the teen space during this event.

Teen Show & Tell Have a cool rock? Did you get a new notebook? Have you written a short poem? Do you have a fun story? Come and show off! January 26, 4 pm.

Starbooks Book Club Last Tuesday Monthly. January 27 at 6 pm at Starbucks, 2034 N. Highland. Join us at Starbucks by the mall for our book club to talk about what we’ve been reading. For adults and teens.

Jackson Writers Guild Second and Fourth Thursday at 5:30 pm. January 8 & 22. Join a group of writers to learn about writing of all kinds!

American Sign Language Practice Mondays at 11:00 am. Come practice your ASL with other students and Deaf individuals.

GED Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:00 pm. Registration Required. Call 731-924-9037.

Tai Chi is every Tuesday at 10:00 am. Tai chi is a Chinese tradition that is now practiced as a graceful form of exercise.

Stitching Hour is every Tuesday at 2:00 pm. Join others for a cozy session of knitting, crocheting, embroidering, tatting, or any other textile skill. Beginners welcome!

Line Dance every Monday at 6:00 pm and Friday at 11:30 am. Come in and get a great hour of exercise at our line dance classes!

Midwest TN Genealogical Society Second Tuesday at 5:30 pm. January 13th. Presentations and help related to genealogy and local history.
