Henderson mayor discusses city’s growth, plans for the future
HENDERSON, Tenn. — With a new year beginning, we wanted to speak with some local mayors regarding how the last year went, as well as their plans for the future.

Mayor Terry Bell told us about their forward initiative, in collaboration with Chester County, to identify community needs.
He also spoke about the completion of some utility projects. Also, he spoke about how the West Tennessee state fair came to town this year.
He says that it was a huge community effort.
“There has been a lot of work, as everybody knows it was great. There was a lot of volunteers that came together and restored it. We really appreciate Mayor Hutchison and what they’ve done in the county with that,” said Mayor Bell.
Of course, the annual barbeque festival brings in many people to town each year. Mayor Bell says it was a big one this time around.
“It was the largest we have had by far. It probably grew 40% over the previous year. The community came together. I cannot express how much I appreciate the community,” said Mayor Bell.

He went on to speak more on the community and how different groups always come together. He says this happens in good times and also sad times, for instance when the city lost one of its oldest restaurants in a fire. Mayor bell spoke on why togetherness is important.
“It has been said that America is great because she’s good. I think that translates down to Chester County and Henderson is great because she’s good,” said Mayor Bell.
Mayor Bell also spoke about some of the additions and improvements at Freed-Hardeman University, like the new dining hall and the current renovations to the auditorium. Both of which serve the community.

Mayor Bell has been in office for just under a year and a half and he says he’s motivated to continue the successes for Henderson.
