City leaders discuss updating noise ordinance in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Residents in one community could be getting an updated noise ordinance in the future.

The Brownsville municipal regional planning commission meeting was held Thursday evening.

The committee introduced draft language to potentially enhance the city’s noise ordinance, which currently deals with car mufflers and car horns.

The new ordinance would include instruments and loud music.

This comes following complaints from residents regarding parties and activities with loud noise late at night and early in the morning.

“This will be more comprehensive, more modernized and basically will allow up to a reasonable amount of noise until a period of 11 pm to 7 in the morning,” explained Shelton Merrell, Brownsville city planner.

On January 22nd, the committee will look at the language and vote on whether to recommend it to the city board.
