MEDINA, Tenn. — One local community gathers to discuss a potential new EMS service. The Gibson County EMS Public Safety Committee held a meeting to discuss a proposed ambulance service.  This would allow for quicker emergency responses for Medina residents.

We spoke with Mayor Scottie Betts who shares why it is important for the community.  “I work closely with the fire department, the police department, and everyone in our city and I see the causes that they go out to. And I see how long it takes medics to get there. We’re just trying to help everybody not only in our city but to help free up ambulances up in other parts of the county so they’re not tied up all the way on the south side end.” said Mayor Scottie Betts.

We also spoke with Gibson County EMS Director Dan Fowlkes who shares his appreciation for Medina first responders.  “We’re thankful for the Medina Fire Department, the first responders there for their residents. They have a great staff over there, they have a lot of highly trained people on their staff. Several paramedics and several EMT’s” said Dan Fowlkes.

The proposal is still in the early stages. More data will need to be gathered before any progress is made.  They don’t expect to see any major updates until budget season.
