New splash pad to be installed in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Madison County announced a new feature coming to one of their parks on Thursday morning.

Madison County Parks and Recreation has directed funds from a state grant to build a brand new splash pad.

The funds are meant to be used for trail development and capital projects in natural areas, greenways, and parks just like Pugh Bourne Park.

“It’s a part of the grant that we got from Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation two years ago, it’s called the Local Parks and Recreation Fund. We got about $1.8 million from that grant. This is going to be the final piece, the final project, in that grant, it’s the last thing we’ll be doing before we close that grant,” said Matthew Martin, executive director for Madison County Parks and Rec.

The splash pad is expected to begin construction in the spring and finish just in time for summer. Parks says it will be roughly 3,300 square feet and be fenced in for safety purposes.

The park will also have an attendant to keep the feature clean and safe for the community.

“When you hit June and July in Madison County, West Tennessee, you’re going to want to be in some cool water so come see us come check it out. It’s going to be right there near the ballparks and so, we’ve already repaved the roads out there, we’ve put in new parking lots, we’re renovating the ball fields, so we really are investing in the quality of life for our citizens so this is just the next chapter of that,” said Madison County Mayor AJ Massey.

While all Madison County residents are welcome, there will be a small fee for admission. Visitors can expect some sprayers, some water spouts, and the feature to be ADA accessible.

Madison county parks is always excited to create new things to encourage folks to get outside and enjoy their parks.
