JACKSON, Tenn. — We were able to speak with Senator Marsha Blackburn Thursday morning regarding the recent event in Minnesota, and the Affordable Care Act discussion in Washington.

Minnesota shooting

Senator Marsha Blackburn sat down with us to discuss a few different topics. One of which being the recent events that occurred in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She told us some of the discussions that have been going on.

“What we have heard from people is, always, over the concern of loss of life. Also concern for our ICE agents, who have faced over a 1,300% increase in assaults and attacks,” said Blackburn.

Senator Blackburn says that people have also brought up some of the work done locally in Tennessee.

“People have said to me to ‘Look at the good work we’ve done in Memphis because we had a workable arrangement.’ I think it would be wonderful if all cities moved forward like the mayor of Memphis and the police chief have done,” said Blackburn.

The house of representatives is expected to vote on renewing Affordable Care Act subsidies Thursday. It is expected to pass; however, a similar vote failed in the state at the end of last year.

“The ACA credits stay in place. We have offered, across state line purchase of health insurance, we also have offered health savings accounts, and items that will give more choice and options for the American consumer,” said Blackburn.

If the vote passes in the house, there is no direct timeline on when the senate would cast their vote.

Senator Blackburn also told us of the Fraud Accountability Act that was introduced Thursday, this would explicitly add fraud as a deportable offense.
