THIS WEEK:

The first chance for showers and storms this week came in Thursday night. We did see some showers but there were no big storms or major concerns. There was some 30-40 MPH wind gusts associated with the showers as they moved through. Thursday night was going a breezy to windy night with southerly winds increasing as the night went on. Those southerly winds warmed us up to around 70° near record highs during that day and the high dew point kept Thursday night warm with Friday morning lows starting out in the low 60s.

We have more rain showers and maybe a few rumbles of thunder starting on Friday evening between 9pm – midnight and they will linger into Saturday morning. Most of us are just going to see some moderate to heavy rain showers but a few rumbles of thunder will be possible near the Mississippi border near Hardin county, but overall the threat looks low for anything but rain. The late line could produce a rotating storm or two but will more likely be another straight line wind event. The forecast will change some over the next 12-24 hours so be sure to stay with WBBJ and monitor forecast information before the storms get here.

Friday started out warm and humid but as the day went on, drier and cooler air slowly moved in. The morning temperatures stayed in the low 60s and we did warm up near 70° before the evening and night showers started to move on in. Friday was a bit breezy with the winds coming in out of the southwest but they will turn up calm at times tonight before picking back up on Saturday behind the front. Most of the ingredients to produce severe weather appear to be just south of West Tennessee on Friday and the Storm Prediction Center has areas in Mississippi under a slight risk (2/5) for severe storms but we are just under a general storm threat south of I-40. Friday night lows will drop into the low 50s overnight.
