State legislators meet in Jackson to discuss upcoming Tennessee General Assembly
JACKSON, Tenn. — A few state legislators came to Jackson to speak with other leaders about their plans for the next session.

Representatives Johnny Shaw, Brock Martin, and Chris Todd came to the Southwest Tennessee Development District to speak with local leaders. Senator Ed Jackson was there virtually to speak as well.

Rep. Chris Todd, R-TN, spoke first about a bill regarding the elimination of state property taxes.
“I have heard from a lot of seniors and veterans and other folks about concerns over, especially our elderly, not being able to pay their property taxes, or sacrificing other things,” said Rep. Todd.

Rep. Brock Martin, R-TN, serves on the health committee. He spoke about some federal dollars that the state will be able to use soon.
“Record amount of money is going to be coming to rural America for the first time ever. *butted* we just found out, two weeks ago, that’ll be $208 million for tennessee. $208 million,” said Rep. Martin.
Finally, Rep. Johnny Shaw, D-TN, spoke about a potential bill that could help keep tow truck drivers safe when they are on the side of the road.
“When they are actually loading vehicles on tow trucks, they need a blue light to use during the time they are loading those vehicles to make sure that the drivers will get over,” said Rep. Shaw.

Rep. Shaw also mentioned that he has 11 months left to serve his role. He said he has been grateful for the 26 years he has been able to represent his district.
The next legislative session is set to convene next week.
