Jackson Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrates 113 years
JACKSON, Tenn.—The Jackson Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is celebrating 113 years of service to the community.
The sorority celebrated its Founder’s Day with an event at New St. Luke Activity Center in Jackson today.
The chapter hosted a luncheon which included a message from special keynote speaker Victoria Christopher Murray.
Murray is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Personal Librarians and The First Ladies. She has more than 30 titles and three million books in print.
The celebration also included a special program recognizing the 22 founding women as well as others who play an important part in the organization.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s main focus is building on educational goals within the community, mental and physical health initiatives, and economic issues.
The organization was started back in 1913 and has well over 350,000 members with 202 of those being a part of the Jackson Chapter.
