Showers Out Tonight, Cold Coming for Several Days!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
The first of two cold front over the next 24 hours is beginning to drop south across West Tennessee this afternoon. Showers will continue for the next few hours this evening before clearing out early tonight. Overnight lows will fall down to around 30° below freezing, but by the time we get cold enough for the snow, the showers should have wrapped up by then. There were a few reports in our northern counties of some light snow but no travel impacts or a dusting will show up for any of us this evening. There is another shot for a brief wintry mix or maybe some light snow later next week and we will tell you all about it, as well as the latest on a very cold weekend coming up right here.
THIS WEEK:
The wind chill was in the teens Thursday morning and it was a cold day with highs only reaching the mid 30s. It felt in the 20s most of the day from that brisk northwest breeze. We did see plenty of sunshine at least and skies remained clear Thursday night into Friday morning making for another cold night but those southwest winds did warm us up a bit by Friday morning. Those southwest winds will sticking around in the afternoon on Friday and that will warm us back up to around 50° before the rain showers move through and the cold front begins to dig in.
The moisture will increased a bit as well leading to some clouds building in during the afternoon and sticking around this evening before braking up overnight. Most of us saw some light rain showers in late afternoon and evening hours, but we didn’t pick up much. There was also a brief period of freezing drizzle or flurries that showed up Friday in our northern counties but it didn’t add up to much. We are not expecting any snow tonight across our area. Friday night lows will fall down to around 30° and the next round of cold air is coming early in the weekend.
THE WEEKEND:
The big questions in the forecast this week all have to do with what we can expect this weekend. Forecast models have been doing a lot of flip flopping this week as to what is coming our way. The timing and severity of the front as well as the amount of available moisture will be the main factors determining our weather Friday night and into this weekend. As of now we are expecting a overall dry weekend and a cold one as well. The first front should moved through Friday evening and another front will pass during the day on Saturday and could bring a few flurries but a dusting or any measurable snow seems unlikely at this from the storm system.
Highs on Saturday will look to be around 40° and Sunday highs are forecast to only reach the mid 30s as of now. Overnight lows both weekend nights look to be around 20°. The winds will come out of the west of northwest this weekend and feels like temperatures in the teens looks likely as of now at times this weekend. There will be more clouds on Saturday than on Sunday. We could get as low as 15-16° for some of us Sunday morning.
NEXT WEEK:
Next week is going to start out cold and that includes your Martin Luther King holiday on Monday. Highs will only reach the upper 30s for both Monday and Tuesday. Both mornings will be cold as well with low 20s Monday morning but mid teens are possible Monday night into Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning could be the coldest morning we have had so far this winter. The winds will start out of the northwest but transition to the south in the middle of the week and that will warm up back up above average around 50° for Wednesday and maybe a little cooler on Thursday. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky next week with more clouds coming on Wednesday and that will be our next shot for some rain showers as well. There is a shot for some of the showers to linger around long enough into Thursday morning for a brief period of sleet or maybe even some light snow. Accumulations look unlikely at this time but cannot be ruled out. We will need to keep a close eye on the forecast for Wednesday night as we get going into next week.
