Essential items to have ahead of weekend winter storm
JACKSON, Tenn. –Now’s the time to stock up on winter storm essentials, if you haven’t already.
If you haven’t stocked up on all the essentials for the upcoming winter storm, there really is no better time like the present.
Winter storms are notorious for knocking out power and keeping you in your home for an extended period of time.
For this upcoming possible storm, it’s smart to prepare for not only the weekend but maybe even a few extra days after.
Once you have your snow shovel, maybe a generator, Food Giant General Manager Trace Hutcheson tells us what he’s seeing customers stock up on.
“Lot of water, lot of eggs, a lot of milk, we also have ice salt, seen someone have like three or four of them big bags in their buggy,” said Hutcheson.
Ice salt in particular is extremely important for driveways, side walks, and your front porch. The best protection from the incoming weather is too stay home away from the freezing temps, and slick roads. For those still preparing their homes and families Hutcheson tells us how his family is staying attentive.
“I don’t know, hopefully cranking the generator up, probably just hanging out really I mean, we get it once a year and then we never really get fully get prepared for it until it’s here, cause you really don’t know what’s going to happen. I’d say just keeping the pantry full, making sure we got some water, make sure you got gas in the generator, that’s about it,” Hutcheson added.
For weather like this, it’s better to prepare as early as possible as many stores may have delayed hours if the possible storm is severe.
Essentials such as non perishable food items like crackers, canned good and other easy off the shelf items, can be found all over town.
Even preparing backup items like a second shovel for your car or another gallon of water can make a huge difference in a pinch.
If you can, its probably a good idea to stay home this weekend. But like many of us, if that’s not possible, be sure to stay prepared.
